We explore

The root causes of global issues, and develop strategies to resolve them.

We seek to understand

The interactive problems of war, terrorism, climate change, environmental destruction, resource depletion, poverty, social breakdown, religious fundamentalism, and declining physical and mental health which collectively constitute a global crisis.

We ask

  • Why is our civilization faced with so many problems?
  • Why are humans unable to live together in peace and plenty?
  • Why do we destroy the living systems that support our existence?
  • Why do we suffer so many physical and mental health issues?
  • What can we do to resolve these global issues?

We aim

To develop integrated strategies to tackle such issues, including actions of all kinds from the practical to the philosophical and spiritual, and at all levels from the individual to the global.

We endeavour

To provide well-researched, thoughtful, thought-provoking and well-written content.

The information on this site

Is based on three books, other writings and on-going research and thinking by Malcolm Hollick and Christine Connelly, as outlined in the boxes below. But we stand upon the shoulders of many people without whom we could do nothing. We are inspired and informed by other authors and thinkers through the ages, including all those who contribute by commenting here on our website. And we are supported by our families, friends and colleagues.

Free eBook

The 80 page eBook Human Solutions Now: An Overview is available free if you register on the site (See Sign up box in sidebar). The book provides a summary of our three books – on sustainable communities, the integration of science and spirituality, and the impact of trauma. It then outlines on-going research on a holistic approach to healing, before drawing together some common themes from the diverse subjects of our work. Those who register will receive a short quarterly newsletter, and may unsubscribe at any time.

We owe debts of gratitude to many people over many years for their encouragement and support. In particular, we’re very grateful to Rob and Thessa Egan, founders of Alchemy Techniques, for their therapy, therapeutic training, and technical assistance with setting up this site. Their generosity knows no bounds. We’d also like to thank Prof Jorg Imberger of The Centre for Water Research at The University of Western Australia for his on-going financial and practical support of our research.

Hope for Humanity

Hope for Humanity

In this book we argue that psychological trauma is a root cause of the human predicament. We document the nature, mechanisms, extent and impacts of trauma, and outline its role in history and the present. Trauma affects us all. It warps our personality, blights our health, stunts our development, and condemns us to living well below our potential. Humanity will not be able to resolve its challenges until we take effective action to heal existing trauma, increase resilience to potentially traumatic events, and reduce the creation of new trauma.

The Science of Oneness

The Science of Oneness

This book argues that overcoming the world’s problems and building a sustainable future requires new philosophical and spiritual foundations. We need a radically new understanding of the universe, our place in it, and the meaning and purpose of life. The book weaves the insights of science, ancient spiritual traditions and diverse cultures into a holistic and scientifically valid vision of the universe as conscious, creative, loving and purposeful. It challenges us all to help guide the evolution of humanity and the Earth in the ways of deep and enduring wisdom.

Sustainable Communities

Sustainable Communities

Grassroots community action holds many keys to a sustainable future for the planet. In 1997, Malcolm and Christine studied 11 ecovillages in Australia, the USA and Europe. Sustainable Communities introduces the ecovillage vision, describes each community in detail, and discusses key issues in creating a viable alternative society. It presents a coherent vision of a decentralised, humane, fulfilling society in balance with its natural environment. After this study, Malcolm and Christine lived for 12 years in the Findhorn Ecovillage Community in Scotland gaining direct experience of living, working and relating in an alternative community.

A Holistic Approach to Wellbeing

A Holistic Approach to Wellbeing

Hope for Humanity, argues that trauma is a root cause of the challenges we face. It discusses a variety of approaches to trauma healing through therapy, but does not address general health and wellbeing. We are now developing a holistic approach that recognises that trauma healing is more effective when accompanied by good nutrition, adequate hydration and oxygenation, relaxation, stress management, electrical connection to the Earth, and supportive relationships. In this way, we can experience more wellbeing, and greater ability to contribute to the healing of those around us, and the planet.
